A Different World

How COVID-19 is affecting dogs around the world and the importance of supporting local businesses in this time.

Alright, so I keep hearing news, reading articles, and seeing hilarious memes about how humans don't have to worry because their pets are not affected by this virus that is sweeping the planet, but all of these people could not be more wrong....

Ok ok, before you start to worry, the scientists seem to be correct in that we cannot contract the virus, but that doesn't mean we aren't affected. I used to be able to sleep all day long, now my humans won't leave the house and are occupying all the good nap places! They are constantly asking me to do tricks all day for treats and I'm not allowed to play with my toys or make noises when they talk to their computer. Who's house do they think this is?!

In addition, all my favorite puppy hour places are closed and only open for takeout. I miss exploring these places, meeting new people, and all the smells. While quarantined inside the house I am still trying to do my part to help support these places I love. We have been going on quick walks to pick up to go orders and we also bought gift cards to share with friends. I want to make sure these places are around once this is over!

In order to make this easier for all of us, here are a few points to help you get through this (from a dog's perspective):

  • This will not be the end of the world. There is no need to panic; but please do your part to help make this thing easier for everyone else. We will hang out with you all day, every day so there is no need to socialize in person during this time. #socialdistancing

  • We appreciate your love, but you don't have to tell us how cute we are every 10 minutes all day, we already know. Let us sleep while you work, then we can play after!

  • As there are currently no sports on tv to keep you entertained, we will take one for the team and fill that void. Catch a ball, roll over, jump....we are here for you.

  • Gyms are closed. You always workout without us, but now, we are going to make sure you still get your workout in. Let's go for a run (or a walk), but let's be active together.

  • Grocery stores still have food. You are worried about eating the same thing every day, but you forget that is our life! I think you can manage for 2-6 weeks. Hang in there.

  • You know what's not closed? Nature! It's also light outside later so plenty of time to go to the park, setup a hammock, go on a hike, or explore the outdoors. (Just remember to keep a 6-ft distance from any other humans we might encounter.)

  • Support Local Businesses. Those business owners might have dogs that still need treats. Plus those owners are doing everything they can for their customers, be there for them during this time so they will still be around for our enjoyment after quarantine.

While this is an unknown time for everyone, we are seeing more positives from humans than negatives. We will be here to support you through it all. Thanks for loving us unconditionally and not spreading your weird human virus to our community. Oh ya, and if you get sick, we promise to be by your side the whole time. Together, we got this!
