Bates Nut Farm

Get in the Halloween Spirit with a trip to Valley Center's iconic Bates Nut Farm. With festive activities and a shop filled with goodies, there is something for everyone!

Fresh off the plane, Halloween is tomorrow, and luckily the fam waited until the last minute to go to the pumpkin patch! My first full day in San Diego was spent at Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center, CA. So many different sites, smells, and sounds! Although it was a bit of a sensory overload, I loved every second at this farm. I got to meet some different animals from across the fence. For some reason the hoomans wanted to play with them instead of me?? The ponies were a little bit scary and I barked at them to show them who's boss. I think they were more scared of me though and I quickly learned I wasn’t allowed to do that.

All of the smells were delightful. Although my mom didn’t share any of the food, it sure did smell good! Maybe next time we go I can guilt-trip her into sharing. The farm also had a lot of orange round things. They were all different sizes and I learned that these are pumpkins. My mom and I picked out one pumpkin for the house after taking pictures among hundreds of them. Bates was a great place to go to walk around and be outside. It definitely got me in the mood for fall and Halloween (even if it is tomorrow).

Pro Tip: Avoid the crowds and go early on a weekend morning or any weekday afternoon.
